Myelitis and MS - need advice living with a disability

I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis in 2015 and then later MS. I started with a walking stick and graduated to a walker.  My mobility is getting worse and I'm waiting for spinal surgery, so I was just thinking about getting a mobility scooter. I've just had a letter from DVLA telling me that my driving licence has been revoked because I have an eyesight problem that's not under control and I know this can't be resolved quickly, so I'm definitely looking for a scooter now.

I'm used to being independent (although my husband is a fantastic support), but now I'm starting to need more advice on living with a disability, so that's what brought me here!

Hi @WilmaKnickersfit, and a warm welcome to the community. Great to have you here!

I'm sorry to hear about your mobility issues. It can be a tough thing to adapt to, but you're among others who understand here on the community. There's some great starting guidance on getting a mobility scooter on the NHS website (partway down the page) which may be worth a read. There are also some tips on finding second-hand equipment on the Scope website. Do have a read and feel free to come back to us with any questions.

I'm sure our lovely community champion @Ami2301 will be happy to chat with you about her own experiences too!

Hi @WilmaKnickersfit welcome to the community! I am sorry to hear this. I can completely empathise with you as I was formally diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis almost a year ago and it turned my world upside down.

If you would like to have a chat then I am always here :)
