Hello am trying to apply for ESA for my 19 year old some who has a rare chromosome disorder.  He is a school until September.  Which ESA do I apply for and how?  Is it the Income based ESA?
Thanks

    Hi,

All areas are now a full Universal credit area so claiming Income Related ESA is no longer possible. Does your son claim DLA or PIP? Are you claiming child tax credits for them?

Hi I have finally managed to speak to someone and they said claim Universal Credit.  He gets PIP so I will apply for it.
    Thank you

@Bella781 I'm afraid he won't be able to claim UC because he's a student. Students can only claim UC under certain circumstances and claiming PIP alone isn't one of them. If he lives with you then to be able to claim UC in his own right then he needs to have limited capability for work and claim PIP because he hasn't been assessed as having limited capability for work then he won't be able to claim UC.

He can claim New style ESA BUT this will only be for National Insurance credits only (no payments) until he's assessed and a decisions been made on his claim. If he's given Limited capability for work then he'll be able to claim UC.

This link will explain everything you need to know and what you need to do.
