I received a budget loan from the dwp. Is there a way to find out what is outstanding on it?

Hi @davedj44 have you tried contacting them to ask for the outstanding balance?

Hi, I used to work for them... official government advice is:

If your question is about the repayment of a Social Fund loan and you are still receiving benefit, please call the Social Fund Enquiry Line on 0800 169 0140 (8am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday)

If you aren't receiving benefit then you need to call Debt Management on 0800 916 0647 (open from 8am to 7.30pm)

If you're getting Universal Credit the social fund team may ask you to call Debt Management as usually old social fund loans become "migrated" once you stop claiming old style (legacy) benefits, which means they are always dealt with by Debt Management and never get returned to the social fund to deal with.

They DWP will have records for all loans but may not have up to date contact details passed between teams if they haven't been contacted about the loan since the last payment was made.

The debts never get written off as they are given under the social security administration act and are not a consumer credit agreement. Even if you went bankrupt they do not get written off. They never become statute barred as such. They may not take you do court but if you ever claim benefit or pension they can take payments from those. Or if they become migrated due to claiming universal credit or no longer getting a legacy benefit like Income Support or ESA, they can be collected directly from your wages via what's called a Direct Earnings Attachment.

    Hope that helps :)
