Welcome to the community @shannon23 how are you doing today?

As this is a new treatment for you, I can understand why you may feel nervous. I am sure our other members can relate to you, so please do not feel alone in feeling this way. Some of our members have mentioned brain stimulation.

If you have further questions, please let us know. You can keep us updated on how it goes. All the best. :)

    Hi @shannon23
I have not had the treatment myself but I do have an old college friend that underwent the procedure. She has had nothing but positives since recovering. It has allowed her to have far more control over her limbs.

Hello Shannon. I have a condition called Dystonia and have had Deep Brain Stimulation treatment.

I had terrible trouble with my mobility and also my nerves. I first had the operation over 7 years ago. Unfortunately it did not work.

After much consideration the specialist surgeon gave me the opportunity to retry the operation and to reposition the DBS implant further into my brain. I had the second operation just over 3 years ago.

My condition is one you cannot cure because it's genetic. The stimulation has definitely helped with the nerves side of my condition but my mobility is still really bad. Now that isn't to say that it cannot help you as you have a totally different condition to mine.

What I can say though is that is a very big decision to have DBS surgery, and you really have to weigh the positives to the negatives. It really is life changing. If you have any questions about the procedure please do not hesitate to ask me.
