Transition from DLA to PIP

Hi new on here so bear with me
My youngest son has Aspergers and also Marfans Syndrome. he was previously awarded DLA indefinitely
we now have to apply for PIP and I’m worried that he won’t get it as he’s now 25
The form seems very daunting and I thought I’d kept a copy of the DLA form we filled in all those years ago and I can’t find it
Has anyone on here able to give some advice as to how best to fill in the form or have any experiences getting PIP for Aspergers.

Hi,

PIP isn't awarded based on a diagnosis, it's how those conditions affect your ability to carry out daily activity based on the PIP descriptors and you can't compare 2 people because we are all affected differently by these conditions. Lots of people successfully claim PIP because of the way Autism affects them.

Are you his appointee or does he manage his own claim? Either way when you/he rings to start the claim off you can ask for his DLA file to be used as evidence for this claim, even though they are different benefits. You also need to make sure you send recent relevant evidence which should state how his conditions affect him because they very rarely ask anyone for any evidence.

When filling out those forms you need to put as much information as possible about how his conditions affect him. Adding 2-3 real life examples of what happened the last time he attempted that activity for each descriptor that applies to him.

If you don't have enough time to return the form you can ring to ask for a further 14 days. If the form is received on time his DLA will continue until a decision's been made on the PIP.

Once the form is returned he's most likely have to attend a face to face assessment because most people have them. It's rare to have a paper based assessment.
