What song would you sing in the shower?

This week (Monday 17th June – Sunday 23rd June) is Breathe Easy Week. With research suggesting that lung disease affects 1 in 5 people in the UK, it’s more common than people often realise.

But how can you take steps to increase your lung capacity?

An article said:

Breathing exercises, physical activity and vitamin D help your respiratory system. If that doesn’t work, you can indulge your inner musician.

The most common way to increase your lung capacity is by doing regular exercise, even if this is just a 20min walk or some gentle stretching every day. On the other hand, having a good sing can also be beneficial. If that’s not a good excuse to sing in the shower, then I’m not sure what is!

Stories from the British Lung Foundation

What would you like to do to improve your lung health? What would be your song of choice? Let us know in the comments below!

This is great @Chloe_Scope!  I am a terrible singer, so much so that when I used to take Brownies, one of the girls told me that I was tone deaf - lol!   I don't mind singing in the shower now and again and don't care who hears me!  Anything cheesy does me, usually from the 80's, as you can't beat a bit of Wham or Culture Club!   Oh and a bit of Kylie goes down great too - lol!

If i could sing in the shower it would be " Rain drops keep falling on my head " :)

Having COPD I struggle with breathing and excess mucus which is difficult to move. Under the care of our community respiritory health team, I was recommended to try an acapella  device. This is a "flutter " device which rapidly interupts the breathing creating a pulse or flutter in the lungs and helps to mobilise. Used in conjunction with huffing technique  it does seem to be working.

Being on home oxygen and nebulisers it can be hard to get out but the portable type of mesh nebuliser has made this a bit easier

As my daughter suffers with Cystic Fibrosis, she has to do acapella and huffing techniques to clear her lungs, when that doesn't do much we resort to chest physio which we 're-named  pats,  she can't do much in the way of exercise as she gets out of breath to much but yes she does sing  any where and any time it does help to keep her well xxx

@Ails, you definitely have the good song vibes!!!

Thank you for this @CockneyRebel. I imagine this can be very difficult but it's great you feel the treatment is working.

I'm glad singing is beneficial @Kell430! I hope she is doing okay :)

If i sang in the shower my daughter would laugh and never stop. I don't have the greatest voice for singing and she lets me know this lol. Sometimes she'll ask me to sing something...... my reply to her "go away" or something like that :D haha

    Hi Kell430

Which  acapella device does your  daughter use ? I am new to using a device but I do know that there are different types available so any recommendation would be gratefully received, either good or bad

@CockneyRebel as far as I know there is only the one type of acapella, however there are different devices to help with chest physio such as incentive  spirometer and pep mask,  also if you're bored of doing huffs play blow ⚽

@Chloe_Scope she had a two week stay in hospital not long ago and she's just celebrated her 20th birthday  so all good thanks xxx

Come and Get Your Love by Redbone.

Playing this on a loop was about the only way to get my son to fall asleep for the first five months of his life. It's now a bit of a permanent earworm. I used to think it was an awesome tune, but I'd like to retract that statement at this point.

We have a appointment with a lung specialist tomorrow. As my son’s lungs have not been checked for 2 years I think it’s time.

It went well. On the way back from the clinic I stopped to buy fish and chips as I didn’t want to cook dinner tonight.
