Help Scope with Cerebral Palsy Research

Scope is putting together some research on cerebral palsy, and we would love to hear from you. We’re setting up phone interviews with members of our Scope Research Panel as part of a wider project to improve Scope’s offering for people with cerebral palsy, with £30 for everyone who takes part as thank you for your time and effort.

At this stage, the project entails a single phone interview with my colleague Maria, who will spend around an hour learning about you and your experiences. Our only criteria is that you have cerebral palsy. You don’t have to divulge anything you don’t want to, and there won’t be any right or wrong answers.

If you’d like to take part, just reply to this email: james.roscow@scope.org.uk and give me a rough idea of when you might be free over the next few weeks, as well as a phone number to potentially ring you on the day. Seeing as these are phone interviews, we can accommodate around your schedule. Your feedback could be really helpful in improving Scope’s offering for people with cerebral palsy. If you’ve got any questions or there’s anything else I can help with, just let me know or ring me on 02080364906.

“This project is related to Scope’s Research Panel, which is a really great way of giving your insight whilst getting some money as a thank you for your time and effort. The research panel is comprised of disabled people and parents/carers of disabled children. If you sign up, Scope’s panel team will contact you to take part in research projects that range from face-to-face focus groups to phone interviews, to quick surveys and polls. Most research we do is paid, in the form of a voucher as a thank you for your time. There are no minimum time requirements; if you don’t want to take part once you’ve signed up you don’t have to! All the research we do is completely confidential and anonymised. If you’re interested, head to https://www.scope.org.uk/research-panel/ or to get some more information, send an email to our panel team at researchpanel@scope.org.uk.

Do you have any other way for people to participate?  My 21 year old son may be intersted but as an AAC user phone interviews are almost impossible

    Hi @forgoodnesssake
We are looking at other formats so everyone that wants to participate can. I will update you later today.

    Hi @forgoodnesssake
Because of the limited turn around time and limited resources in terms of staff and budget, we have not been able to open the survey to as wide a group of people as we would have liked to.
We fully recognise that this is going to skew our data somewhat, but we’re hopeful that this is going to be the start of a broader project that will allow us to devote the time/resources into making sure we’re speaking to as many people living with CP as possible. We would like for your son to consider joining our research panel if that is something he would be interested in?
I will keep you updated on the community.

Thanks @Richard_Scope .  As you can imagine, I feel it is very important for Scope to do more with and for people with CP and in particular to make sure that it consults with and gets views from the whole CP community, (not just those who can manage an hour long phone interview!)  So to that end i spoke to my son and he said he is interested in being involved with the research panel.  So should he email them directly?
(PS...will you be at CM at any point this year?)

If your son emails them directly he can then register with Scope's research panel. I wholeheartedly agree with your point. I believe that it is vitally important that all opinions from within the CP community are taken into account and going forward my colleagues and I will work hard to make this happen.

I am planning on attending the CM conference in September.

He's not had any sort of reply yet so will get him to try James Roscow instead.

Apologies @forgoodnesssake. It would be a good idea to email James directly.
