PIP - asked for the assessor's report a few weeks ago but still not received

Hi there,

I had a PIP assessment a few weeks ago, and received a letter on 1 July with an outcome that I was not happy with and feel didn't reflect my condition.

Straight after I received this, I phoned up the DWP to request a copy of the report that my assessor wrote and sent to the DWP. They said that they would send this, but 3 weeks later I have heard nothing and received nothing. Obviously the date for the mandatory reconsideration is fast approaching and I would like to have the report so that I can fully understand where my assessor has misrepresented my condition in their report to the DWP and make arguments to counter such.

I was just wondering what the best course of action is; whether I should apply for the mandatory reconsideration anyway without having anything specific to challenge (other than the DWP report which they wrote based on the assessor's initial report, which I feel is much harder to challenge since it is subjective based on the initial assessor's report), whether it is fair that I have not received the assessor's report, whether I will get further time for a mandatory reconsideration etc.

I also have phoned my GP to ask for a letter backing my position up, they said that a letter supporting my reconsideration claim is not something that they do, I just also want to know whether this is a position typical of a GP surgery.

I was also never directly offered reimbursement for my travel to the assessment, instead it was just something that I found out myself later, I wondered whether this was correct conduct too or whether this is another area where my assessor failed.

    @JLewis94 - Jack - anytime I've requested a copy of a report I’ve always got it a couple of days later. I might have just been lucky but if it has been three weeks it might be worth ringing again to see whats happened.

    As regards your GP supporting your claim I don’t believe that there is a general ‘policy’. My GP would probably fill in a form if the DWP sent him one but I think a lot depends on how busy he is when he’s finished seeing patients.

    Bear in mind as well that occupational therapy is a specialist area in which your GP might not be trained, and there would most likely be a charge if he/she did a written report.

    @JLewis94, Hello and welcome, the assessment report would, should come within a week unless you live in Northern Ireland where the reports are only sent out after the award notification letter has been sent. The only other possibility is your report has been sent for a random audit which does happen to ensure quality control of assessments which is nothing to worry about just annoying. Keep posting and let the community know how you got on.

    For both out assessment copies I've had to call twice because they didn't send the first time might be worth asking again
