My favourite quote tends to change from time to time.
“I owe my life to my hobbies — especially stamp collecting.” - Franklin D Roosevelt
I tend to get caught up with what is happening at the time, be it work, my volunteering or the pain I am in, and I can forget that what often gives me joy and purpose are the simple things in life. Like the other day laughing when watching a dog chasing a leaf while crossing the road. The woman gave me a funny look, realised what her dog was doing and smiled. I was half way walking home, usually a 20 minute walk which took me an hour that day because of the pain, the second half hour was not so burdensome. As an individual I stood alone.
As a member of a group I did things.
As part of a community I helped to create change! -
“If you want happiness for an hour — take a nap. If you want happiness for a day — go fishing. If you want happiness for a year — inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a life time — help someone else.” Chinese proverb.
I believe this makes a great point that if everyone tries to help other people then it not only enriches their lives, but your own as well, it is one of the best things we do as human beings. -
I like the quote karma had no deadline

Hello @pollyanna1052 Do not understand what you mean ?
I used this through addiction if you continue to say no every time you go through the steps of addiction.
No means to not having a drink or having a hit that time the less you take the more you succeed.
Put an stone in your path on the way to recovery. Remember if you fail in rehab you have to start again.
That means reassessed and then back to the beginning to start to again coming off.
Anything like drugs or alcohol the most addictive .
Clean 12 years this year. .
Having been their use this saying to fight my mental health issues and anything else I have problems with.
Does help.
Hope that explains. I am a soul man by the way. Keep the faith.

Hello @Swordfish. Thanks for your post . Always following you my friend, your always following some one in the addiction community.
Is there anything I can help with regarding MR.?
Only too happy to help . Please have a look around our website for further advice or speak to CAB.
On a lighter note like my Blues and Jazz as well listening all afternoon to Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr.

Hello ,
I saw a young lady from cab yesterday for the second time.
I have Cerebella Ataxia caused by alcohol misuse, I realise some people may have an issue with this, but I took to drinking like a duck to water and paid the price.

“Mind over matter”. It refers to the fact very few things are impossible so remain positive. And of course the famous one “Hakuma Matata “Take it easy”.

Hello @Swordfish Thanks for sharing. No one realises do they what happens to your body and mind.
I know what I have been through . Still am here. Still sending prayers every day to my brothers and sisters who have gone.
The main thing also is we in the addiction community . Who have recovered and are clean. Help heal and send messages of support to those who are struggling day to day.
He Aint Heavy he's My Brother springs to mind.
I do write a lot on alcoholism did a while ago. Happy anytime to talk to you.
Have former friends did have working in the rehab clinics . All alcoholics many of them are doing the good works.
Unfortunately councils closing many or many are so over stretched lack of funds.
Music helps me a lot just finished Northern Soul Night at my home and the memories flooding back some how.
Please anytime always here.

My own ...DNA is the first true 'life form' and all creatures, vegetation, fungi, bacteria etc., are just vehicles for their ancestral DNA.
Why? Because I believe it to be true.
Another of my own ...
The Cycle of Life:- Take from the land
- Live your life
- Die your death
- Return to the land.
Why? Because I believe in returning what I have 'borrowed' - doesn't work for cremation though (sorry if anyone finds this a little morbid).Resident joker - not to be taken too seriously ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
