Cognitive assessment?

Hi, I’ve joined a while ago but written anything just read stuff, but now I find I could do with a little help. I was declined for pip apart from a pittance offered for the mobility component, totally declined for daily living, I am going to go to tribunal but wanted to know is there anyway I can get a recognised cognitive assessment done? as my assessment by the pip representative and assessor say I can read/ understand simple and complex information when I most definitely can not....I’m not good with renumeration, I’m not good socially and I certainly couldn’t plan to go somewhere unfamiliar and get there without support! Any advice ready for tribunal. Many thanks in advance x

@rach1234 - Can your GP not help? They can do some basic tests and if they think that you have a problem they will refer you to a specialist...

Hi @rach1234 and a very warm welcome to the community! Thank you for taking the time to post after being a reader on the site. In completely understand how daunting a tribunal can be so thank you for reaching out.

Have you ever seen a psychologist? You could get a referral from your GP and they would be able to carry out recognised tests to show your level of cognition.

I wish you the very best of luck and please do let us know how you get on!

    Hi @rach1234
There are many areas or types of Cognition, which r4equire assessment by various assessment professions, or even a multi-discipline assessment, diagnosis and support. For example dyslexia has 3 cognitive subtypes auditory, visual and attentional.

You could have a look at the Wikipedia Cognition article to identify the specific issues you may be experiencing. .
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognition

I have Auditory Processing Disorder, or cognition problems my brain having processing the sounds my ears hear, including sound based communication - speech.

When a person ask the D.W.P for help it is usually because it’s the last resort..........my wife and I have been to court 3 times and won ,that proves that the assessment service is massively flawed, our first face to face transcript was like a jk Rowling book ,pure fiction ,stating that my wife who has some chronic illnesses that she has had for 20 years plus .....including N.E.S.S and fibromyalgia which has been diagnosed by top doctors refused to do a simple task ,lifting an empty box .......i was there ,it never happened! what is the point of going to an assessment if they don’t truthfully report what goes on ,the d.w.p are there supposedly to help .......but secretly I think their remit is to cause as much pain as possible!

I had a test for cognitive assessment a few years ago and it was done by a Brain injury specialist that came out to my home from the local hospital. I have Multiple Sclerosis, Fibromyaldia, high blood presure, rapit heart rate, panic disorder, anxiety. PIP still will not accept that I have cognitive issues and I am having to go to tribunral next week.
My F2F report was full of lies, apparently I don't have relaspses?  I go out unrestrickted 4 to 5 days a week, poping to the shops and visiting my friends and family on a daily basis? Thats just a couple of lies said in the report, this assesor who was a A&E nurse knows nothing about MS thats for sure.
