Hi
I have been claiming carers allowance for the last 6 years for my son (aged 26) who lives at home with direct payments and receives high rate pip. I have just recently applied and still waiting for an assesment for universal credit disability for myself. My question is should i give up carers allowance before my assessment? Or should i pass it onto my husband to claim carers allowance?  Thanks

    Hi,

If you're given LCWRA then you won't be able to receive the carers element of UC and LCWRA at the same time. Your husband will be able to claim the carers element instead of you.

You're welcome. That's your decision. If the work capability assessment decision is LCW then you can continue to receive the cares element.

Hi @susanolivier25 and welcome to the community. :)
Just to add, if you're wanting your husband to now receive the carers element of Universal Credit for caring for your son, you'll need to either stop your claim for Carer's Allowance or move this on to him as well.
