Hi all,
My sister is 24 and has CP but in a fairly mild form where her movement is less restricted than others but still struggles with all you would expect with the disability. Due to her early years being taken up with physio and the fact that she struggles to learn certain things, especially movement related she is much less advanced than someone her age.
I have been trying to find somewhere for her to work or volunteer but due to the nature of the disability it makes it very difficult as she requires more training and supervision than others.
Can anyone recommend anything in terms of jobs, roles, organisations to help or share their similar experience?
Thank you,
J

Hi @joshuat1993 and a very warm welcome to the community!
Thank you for telling us about your sister, what kind of work is she interested in?
We have a list of volunteer options at Scope, which also includes being on the online community.
For work, Scope have several services that are designed to help disabled people into employment. For example, Support to Work is an online and telephone support programme for disabled people in England and Wales who are applying for jobs.Your employment adviser will work with you to create a confidential, personally tailored 12-week action plan. Your plan might include things like:- reading job seekers' advice
- writing a CV or cover letter from a template
- research for an interview.
Your adviser will be on hand to help you throughout the 12 weeks. At the end of the 12 weeks your time with the adviser will be up, but you'll still have access to your plan and all its resources online. Also, here some some advice about reasonable adjustment within the workplace that you might find helpful:
I wish your sister the very best of luck and please do let us know how she gets on!Scope -
Hi @joshuat1993 welcome to the community. Finding the right job or training can be tricky.
My colleagues at the Employment Service will be happy to help. We also have some good information about Finding a Job when you have a disability or impairment.
What type of work would your sister like to do?
