CRPS

Hello to everyone, I became disabled after an accident nearly 10 years ago, lost the use of my right foot after a mechanic ran over it, at the time I thought my life was over, I was only 38, I lost my best job as a community nurse, was told I would never get the use of my foot back and nearly 10 years later I still haven't got the use back, was told I couldn't drive, to do with my foot but also with the high amount of medication I'm on and what I'm on, I'm left with having a condition called CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) which you don't hear a lot about, and because of that I do feel as though I'm alone, sorry to of gone on a bit. I’m sorry to here that. I had Spina Bifida and up to year and a half ago I was still driving and living a active life but I notice I was losing sensation in my legs. I was told by my consultants that cysts were growing in my spine pressing on my nerves and within three months to three years I will be fully wheelchair bound. I felt just like you, I felt lost and worried about my what the future holds but since coming on this forum and hearing from other people’s experiences it has given me hope. Stick around and ask people for advice or just come on the site for chat. Just remember your not alone although it might sometimes feel like it.

    Hi @Dinkydoo47

    Good Evening & Welcome ??

I’m one off the Community Champion’s here at Scope.

Yes following my Stroke I had some nhs treatment in 2005 which caused chronic pain down my right hand side.

I have seen numerous specialists since one saying one thing then I would be told something completely different.

Afterwards I decided to do my own homework this lead me onto the term “CRPS” for the 1st time.

Please please let me know if there’s anything that I can help you with??

Hi Dinkydoo, Happy New Year. I fell and badly broke my ankle a number of years ago. I have CRPS. I add an a aft mer the R because that's dhst if is to me. Complex pain that never gives up. People cant understand that  I cant feel my left leg but it is so painful I could vomit if I think anyone will touch it. I have an automatic car, which is mostly driven by my carer but sometimes I drive and it is like being set free. I use a wheelchair so dont venture out of the car on my own. However I can go through a drive through,  it is so exciting. Feel like I have been on holiday when I get back home. ?

Hi @Dinkydoo47 - Welcome to this supportive & friendly community. I see you've already met some lovely, helpful people here, & as you can see we share about our problems & have care for each other. I have a little understanding in that I know what CRPS is, & I used to work as a physio altho' that was a long time ago! I also have chronic pain, but appreciate that's not nearly as bad as what you, Steve & @annedh unfortunately have.
Please have a look around the forum & also chat here any time. Also if you have any questions, there's usually someon e who may be able to help or advise.
Hi @annedh we haven't 'met' before. How lovely to be able to 'escape' in your car. I loved driving, something I'm no longer able to do sadly. A Happy New Year to you all.

Hello @dittydora and welcome to the community :) Thanks for sharing a bit about yourself, how are you today?

Most of the post's on this thread are from 2020, so you might not hear from everyone, but you are welcome to start a new discussion thread yourself on CPRS if you would like.

Let me know if you need a hand with anything.
