Hi
I had an assessment with my primary mental health team and the assessor told me they may not be able to help me as my mental health is too complex and complicated.
I'm really stunned at this. How can I access any support if this is the outcome?

Hello @pjgumna   Pleased to meet you.

I am one of the team of Community Champions of the forum.

Please also have mental health issues, addiction history and disability.

I do advise help members of our Community with mental heath.

Just to reassure you your not alone with this problem, I have experienced it myself.

After coming out of rehab no support.

Lots of this is about money and budgets. Sorry to tell you but remember this is never your fault.

I have and understand the situations myself from all concerned it is not right I agree but since lack of funding support and money from some services. Council ones the worse ever.

All services mental health are a business. One of the sad poignant things and aspects for me, is having to move areas.

Because closing down of services, addiction and rehab.

Moved five times in 20 years to access mental health.

Please can I also add two important things you need to know.

Please if you can do much as you can to agree to a plan for yourself.

I know painful difficult each day if you say no a lot will have to discharge you. Does happen has to  because of the amount of people wishing for help.

Even me lost opportunities to give myself some peace and solace.  Find agree to everything suggested or given information.

Last support worker had per week to a fortnight .  if I remember so many service users would send me Emails , early morning or late at night.

Understand that work load then you need if I can suggest be responsive, have to be.

I suffered abuse and physical harm in a family, had problems with women in abusive violent relationships. My alcoholism.

All my support were feisty ladies and lots like my Mother and girlfriends. Hated being told what to do but did it.

Sat stony silence on the sofa. Being told the truth never easy to be told the by support workers.

Even if I did not agree . Most mental health charities have a contract with you so have to deal with any thing.

Used to ring me up some support workers thought of this for you. Lots on diet, nutrition . Qualifications gained to help me but others like me.

I am sorry to talk about me just thought let you know not alone.

I am going to put these links on for you.

These are all major mental health charities used them all the time.

Thankyou for your comment. I went to MIND too for an assessment but they said the same thing to me. That I needed more professional help than they could give. I begged my GP to refer me to a mental health team.

The mental health team assessor said he would talk to his team and call back. He did call back but the signal was so bad he was breaking up. He left a message for me to call back but they had closed when I called.
I called yesterday and they told me he would be there today and call. I have calked 5 times but get an answering machine saying to leave my name and number and they'll get back.
    I'm at my wits end.

I suffer with complex PTSD, acute anxiety and chronic depression.
I was in a war zone for 3 years.

My illness is growing and more phobias are happening. I am so overwhelmed of the outside that I only go out unless absolutely necessary and with a chaperone.  I have to wear adult pads because when I'm outside I cannot control my bladder.

Hi @pjgumna, I also faced this issue several years ago.

You need to go back to your GP and insist on being referred to the secondary mental health team (Community Mental Health Team), they deal with more serious/complex MH issues and you will get access to Psychological therapies, Psychiatrist etc through them.  You need to stand your ground though otherwise they will try and fob you off.

It took several goes for me being referred to primary care, bounced back to GP, re-referred back to Primary care.... until eventually I was referred to secondary care, I have been under them for the past 3 years.  THere are still lengthy waiting times to get access to therapy once you are with a CMHT, but at least you will be in the right place to receive support.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi @pjgumna, thank you for taking the time to share this with us, I'm sorry to hear you have been struggling with your mental health.

Do you have any further appointments lined up?

I imagine it was frustrating to be told you might not be able to receive their support. The community and it's members are not mental health specialists and you should go by the guidance of your doctor.

Here is a tool from the NHS that allows you to search the psychological therapies are available in your area. If you feel you don't have the right support then please do visit your GP.

Please do let us know how you get on and I hope you enjoy getting to know others on the community. :)
