Esa and carers

in Start here and say hello!
My bro and his wife have been claiming together for years on esa. Last year they put in for Pip and was awarded it. They then put in for carers and have been waiting a year for a reply which they have now received and was told they have been awarded it but before anything else moves forward they are waiting for a decision from esa? Can anyone please tell me what this means? Thank you

    HI and welcome,

    The carers allowance will be deducted £1 for £1 from their ESA payments because they are classed as overlapping benefits and you can't claim them both together. ESA will then add a carer premium (£36.85 per week) to the ESA. Carers allowance will pay the person that's claiming this to them (£66.15 per week) This means that they will be £36.85 better off per week and it will be the carers premium that will be backdated (£36.85 per week) and not the full amount of carers allowance.
