    HI,

    Thanks @thespiceman for the tag

You say you're claiming PIP but you don't say which parts you're claiming, there's 2 parts. If it's daily living and no one claims carers allowance for looking after you then you'll be able to claim the Severe disability premium in with your ESA BUT you will need to claim this first, as soon as you start living on your own.

Once the SDP is in place you'll then be able to claim for housing benefit, if needed. If you're privately renting then you'll be entitled to the 1 bedroom rate of local housing allowance for your area. Check here, what you could claim. https://lha-direct.voa.gov.uk/

If someone is claiming carers allowance for looking after you then you won't be able to claim the SDP and then you won't be able to claim for housing benefit, it will have to be Universal Credit for help with the rent. If you claim UC then your ESA will stop and transfer to UC. Your Support Group award will be honoured in UC BUT it may take a little while for this to happen so your payments maybe less until the LCWRA is added to your claim.

When you say help with moving, do you mean help with the cost? If so then a budgeting loan is possible from DWP as you're claiming Income related ESA. This loan will need to be repaid back from your fortnightly payments. See link. https://www.gov.uk/budgeting-help-benefits/eligibility

Discretionary housing payments also help with the cost of moving but it's not guaranteed that you will get this. It will really depend on your local council. See link. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments/claiming-discretionary-housing-payments

It's a lot to take in and understand so you may want to get some face to face advice from an agency near you.

I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

You're welcome. Then if no one's claiming carers allowance or the carers element of UC for looking after you then once you move and are living alone you should claim the SDP by ringing DWP/ESA. Once this is in payment you can then claim housing benefit.

It is nice to have more people discussing about being independent. I totally agree with everything.
