Hi all, hope everyone is well. I am new to this community. I recently applied for dla for my 3 year old daughter. She has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy/Hemiplegia. She needs care during the day and at night which was explained on the form. And can only walk around 5metres before being in discomfort and starting to fall. We provided medical evidence from her therapists and her pediatrician.

She has been awarded the lower rate of care, which I think is incorrect. Any advice would be great.

Sorry for the long initial message.

Hi @imran83, and welcome to the community!

Have you asked for a copy of the report? This will show you how the decision was made. For example, what elements did your daughter not score that you think she is entitled to?

If you have this information and you still don't agree, you could apply the decision. How long ago was the decision recieved.

Hope you are safe and well, please do let us know if we can do anything else to help. :)

Hi chloe_scope thank you for your reply. I will ask for a copy of the report and update accordingly. The decision was received this week. Thank you again, just very disheartening when you see your child struggle and they think she does not require the extra care.

Hi @imran83 Welcome to the community I am sorry to hear about your daughters DLA claim.

Im not an expert on childrens DLA but if it is anything like PIP once you have the decision you have 1 month to request a mandatory reconsideration. Details of this should be in the award letter.

You need to look at where and why you disagree with the decision. MR have a low success rate and if this doesn't change the decision the next stage would be tribunal.

I apologise now if this isn't the process for DLA but I will signpost someone else who may have more advice @Username_removed
