Can I ask for the house to be sold?

Im going through a divorce following 5 years where my wife became a carer. We have 2 kids age 13 & 15.

Im in poor health, can I ask that the house is sold to allow me to move on in what time I have left

    I am sorry to learn about your difficult situation.

    In general terms the house is key to where your children stay for most of the time.

    Though if it is a five or six bedroom mansion, the court can order it’s sale, to enable you to secure your own place.

    Also, consideration is given to your personal circumstances.

    My best advice, is you seek an appointment with a family law solicitor, they usually give a free half hour session, on such matters.

    You could also try any Pro Bono solicitors.

    Sadly, there is no Legal Aid for family law, unless domestic violence is at play.

    Hi @Legless - & welcome to the community. Having just had my divorce finalised early on this year, I agree completely with @atlas47 in that you need a solicitor that specialises in family law. Everyone's situation is different, so you need their expert advice to guide you through this. If you can, try to reach an agreement with your wife, even if it involves some compromises; the more you can agree beforehand, the easier both financially & stress wise.

    Hi @Legless Welcome to the community its great to have you on board.

    I am sorry to hear about your divorce, part of the divorce should be to sort out the arrangements for the family home and finances. It all also depends on who owns the property is it joint or single ownership

    As advised seek legal advice even if its just the free advice to get to know your rights and entitlement.

    It is possible to do your own divorce to cut the cost of solicitors which I have done twice now, but if there are any complications it is advisable to seek legal assistance
