My 3 year old son has a mild hemiplegia, he can not stay awake on the way home from pre school or if we go out in the afternoon he will fall asleep in the car. This then means he won't sleep at bed time and will be awake till 9 or 10 at night even if he only slept for a short time in the afternoon I don't know how to get around this any ideas?

Hi @Loobieloo - this might just be a common problem with any such young child.....the motion of a car lulls them into sleep, with consequences (!), & not needing sleep until later. I found this with my children. Sorry I have no answer.

Hi @Loobieloo I tend to agree with the above, my son always fell asleep in the car and still does and he is 14 now Apart from trying to avoid him being in the car in the afternoon it jsnt an easy solution.
My son always went to bed later than most it suited our lifestyle at the time with both parents working our time with him was in the evening. This has always been his pattern and once he did go to bed slept straight through and on the up side meant he didnt wake early either.
He did get enough sleep just not at the times to be considered normal -
Hi @Loobieloo
We used to try to keep our daughter as engaged as possible, not always easy whilst driving! Sing songs etc. Anything to keep her awake.Scope
