Hoping to add to everyone's reasons to be cheerful by sharing a few of my favourite books.
I would love some recommendations in return
Read this:
The Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemmingway
If you're feeling this:
Overwhelmed
Because:
It'll remind you that sticking to it and doing your best is always worth it. Even if the outcome isn't what you're hoping for, someone, somewhere will see you trying and love and admire you for it.
Read this:
Equal Rites - Terry Pratchett
If you're feeling this:
Ignored
Because:
Your goals are worth pursuing however difficult it may be to reach them... and it'll cheer you up! I promise.
Read this:
The Alchemist - Paulo Coehlo
If you're feeling this:
Like you have no control
Because:
As an Old King said, ‘If you really want something, then all the Universe conspires in helping you to achieve it’.

Read this:
The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
If you're feeling this:
Like you want to explore the meaning of life.
Because:
It looks deeply into social class, relationships and mystery. It's a short book but it gives you a lot to think about.

Loaded up with a mixture of different genres of books and authors!
A big sign saying ,"help yourself,FREE "!
Not a single book taken!
Obviously, the village population are either defunct in able to read anything unless it has picture's, or suspicious about anything being given away as FREE!
At least they didn't steal the table! OMG!
Take the table and leave the books! OMG!
Anybody else having the same reaction?
Sad times!

Tomorrow, and Saturday are supposed to be a hot and sunny, sooooooooo, going to set up the folding table at the bottom of the garden/driveway with a large selection of the books, with a very big "help yourself " sign!
Apart from having an hour or two at the allotment today, and each day, today planted onion sets, seed potatoes, and carrot and spring onion seeds, and garlic,(and social distance is not a problem, there are only 4 plot holders, its private land, and very rare more than one of us is there at the same time),I've been sitting in the living room again today, looking out the window while making masks out of T shirts, for my once a week trip to our village shop, better to support them than one of the main superstores! Use it or lose it! Especially now!
Not seen many people walking past the house, occasional jogger or dog walker, its a quite rural village.
But I'll put the table out,and books out and see what happens!

Back on topic! Lol

Gary Larson is fantastic! Enjoy
I'm re-reading the Harry Potter series at the moment.

Back a few decades ago they sell something not a book but original readers digest. Every since I was I kid love that pocket size. Proper investigative journalism. I once huge going back 1950 you could see the world. change. It began 1890s approx.
Could get old books from charity my first was 1930s print of letters from Browning. Finney letters and poetry to his friends especially Kipling.
Unfortunately not many charity shops are wheelchair accessible nowadays.
Origin of Species completed. Fascinating book. He argues far more with logic than examples in many places e.g. “this is just an abstract. There’s not enough room”. Amazing to think he got away with that.
Equally one has always been left with the impression his travels on HMS Beagle and many exotic experiences were the basis of the argument and narrative. Bit of a shock to find that it’s largely a few home brew experiments and a shed load of pigeons. As ever an about turn is required.
I have just finished reading The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes, a great read! It was such a good plot that had a few twists and turns!

Lockdown hasn't been any different for me to be honest because I cant go out much anyway so I guess its not effected me too much. Its just frustrating know even the option to be taken out has been taken away so my reading time has been the same really. But I read a lot 📚😍
I wanted to let you know about the latest book I've just finished...and so quickly because I just couldn't put it down. Its such a page turner...Peter May 'The Silent Death' Its fast paced, and you always want to know what happens next. So if you like a good crime book then this is definitely one for you 😉
@Emily_Emz33: what's next on your list?

I've Just finished normal people....so many were banging on about it so had to jump on the band wagon 😂 Now however I am reading Ollie Ollertons 'Battle Ready' I'm guessing u know the one from SAS? Its an interesting read and actually gives u ways of looking at ur life right now and making those changes youve been putting off etc...after that it'll be book 5 of the Outlander series! Love it!
It's about a highly respected lady professor of linguistics contracting Early Onset Dementia. They made this into a film which was rubbish!
On a lighter note
The Spenser series by Robert B Parker.
A Private Investigator in Boston.
The Colour of Law by Mark Giminez.
I read 'easy reads' like James Patterson, Michael Connolly, Lynda La Plante, John Grisham and my favourite is Peter James as i live near where his novels are set and I recognise all the places he writes about.
I read about 5 books a week. Thank goodness for Ebay.
Never read real literature. Bit beyond me.
If anyone is interested in books, there's a great place to visit.
Astley book farm, near Nuneaton.
I went for the first time on the day they reopened after lockdown.
Place is a goldmine for books.
Prices are good,average £2 -£3 per book,even hardbacks.
And they have a great cafe.
