Psoriasis. And Crohnes

My son has suffered with psoriasis for many years when he was diognised with Crohnes the psoriasis completely cleared, after having surgery for chrones (resection) the psoriasis has come back,I'm just curious to know if anyone else has experienced this. Keep well everyone.

    Hi @Olliedogzzzz, could this have been due to the stress of the operation? If he no longer has treatment for psoriasis it might be worth booking a GP appointment.

    Hi @Olliedogzzzz Welcome to the community glad you have joined us, Im no expert and we are not medically trained but could it be linked to stress ?

    Hi @Olliedogzzzz

    Did your son get any help with his psoriasis?  I have Crohn's and had a similar thing with psoriasis on my scalp a few years back.  For me personally, the Body Shop's ginger shampoo really worked wonders and has kept the psoriasis at bay ever since.  If you do try it make sure you double check its suitable first though.  

    I hope your son is doing okay.

    Hi cher his psoriasis is coming back on his body and legs it seem strange to me how it's back after his operation, before he had crohns he's psoriasis was really sever then it completely cleared so do you think his crohns has gone. I don't know if I have made myself very clear

    I have suffered psoriasis on my scalp for years on and off it used to get really infected and sore. I will definitely try that shampoo out. May I ask what crones disease is? I have been suffering terribly with my stomach lately I ended up in ana around six weeks ago with the pain I also get very bloated and full of gas

    Hi Debbie Crohn's disease is inflamtion of the bowel it causes weight loss,and fatigue and much more you have to have stool and blood samples to be diegnosed. I would speak to the doctor and see what he suggests, wish you well

    @Olliedogzzzz Crohn's is a chronic illness so it most likely hasn't gone but is in remission.  I wonder if the psoriasis is caused by any medication your son is on?  It could be a side-effect.  Is your son under the hospital gastro team?

    Hi Cher when my son was in hospital very poorly with cronhs the psoriasis gradually cleared completely,I couldn't believe it as he has suffered since he was 21yrs (he's now 51) it just seems strange to me, he he is waiting now to see what medication he can have as he has tried 3 or 4 injection they work for awhile then he develops antbodies. Hope you can understand me Cher, thankyou waiting now to see

    I think I understand you @Olliedogzzzz:)

    It might be worthwhile you bringing it up with your sons IBD consultant or specialist IBD nurse.  They could help explain what's causing the psoriasis and prescribe something to manage it.  It could be that the treatment he had in hospital worked to clear up his psoriasis at the same time.

    Hi Cher my son should be getting his medication soon, and hopefully it will be the one that treats psoriasis and crohns, before he contacted crohn's ( a long time ago ) he was offered an injection for psoriasis but wouldn't accept it because he was anxious. Thanks for getting in touch Cher

    Everyone with digestive issues should at least be aware of FODMAPs.   It  can do no harm  to be informed,  and most g.ps and even dietitians are  not up to date on this, though N.I.C.E. is pressing for it to be considered.

    That's great news.  Is your son feeling okay about having the MRI?  
    The scan's are so detailed and provide real insight into how active Crohn's is and what treatment plan will be best.  Keep us updated and good luck :)
