I've had lower back problems when walking since birth.
It's called spinal stenosis apparently.
I remember just over 5 years ago, that last Christmas that my Nan was alive, the weather was really bad on Boxing Day, and we had to walk Home from theirs, a journey which was nearly all uphill and it literally nearly finished me off.
Hi, I'm Robbie3172! Does anyone else have chronic back pain?

Hi,
I've had back pain for over 10 years now. Most of the time it is manageable but at least twice a year my lower back pops and the pain is unbearable and leaves me completely debilitated. I have been to a chiropractor and basically live on painkillers. If I stand up straight with my toes on a line and look down my body my stomach is visibly twisted with the right side sticking out more than the left when i stand relaxed. When i twist my body straight the pain down my right leg and in my lower back is unbearable. It is like my body is naturally twisting away from the pain. My next step is to see a physio but i wanted to ask if there is anyone on here who has experienced this 'twisting' scenario? I have tried to find examples of it on google but there seems to be nothing anywhere.. I would like to hear from anyone who has had this happen to them and what their route to recovery was?? Thanks for reading..

Hi @Robbie3172 - & welcome to the community. I'm sorry for the awful back pain you're suffering; certainly not easy to deal with. I think your plan to see a physio is definitely a good idea as they will be able to assess your problems. However, don't hesitate to speak to your GP in the meanwhile.Just thinking about posture, as this can understandably be affected with the pain you're in, perhaps try this. It's difficult working out how things are looking down your body, so stand in front of a mirror. Now imagine there's a string pulling you upwards as if it was on the top of your head towards the back. Does this help with the pain, or how your stomach looks?Anyway, try & keep a good posture as much as you can, in standing, walking & sitting. I'm a physio, tho haven't worked as such for a long time. I have lower back pain due to a genetic disorder, & sometimes have to remind myself of my posture.

Hi @Robbie3172 and a big warm welcome to our community.
I'm sorry to hear about your chronic back pain and wondered, in-addition to the suggestions you've already received, whether you had ever attended a pain management clinic? There are more details about what a pain clinic is on this NHS webpage but it might be a conversation worth having with your GP about being referred.
As not to confuse you, I've moved your post to our 'Physical impairments and mobility issues' discussion category and tweaked the title to alert others experiencing similar to get in touch.
Please let us know how you get on and I hope your pain levels subside soon.Online Community Co-ordinator

I live with spinal pain daily and can empathize with others who may be experiencing similar. They say to freeze pain first followed by heat, it's helpful for some and worth a try.

Hi there,
I have chronic back pain (13yrs after failed back surgery), and I have that twisting issue too. A consultant told me that mine is due to very weak muscles on the other side of my back. In my case, unfortunately, those muscles are paralysed, so there's no fixing it. It may be different for you!
I'd advise you to see your GP, just to make sure it isn't anything more serious. Better safe than sorry, as they say! Then a physio sounds good! I'd try to see a physio who specialises in back problems.
I know how much it wears you down, being in pain 24/7, and how depressing it is to be limited in what you can do! I hope you recover soon!
It's important to keep moving, even if it's only for a few minutes every hour or so. Heat and/or cold can help. I find pacing to be very useful.
Good luck!
