World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and the joy of reading. While this year may be slightly different due to lockdown, we thought we would combine it with Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month and highlight some great books out there.

@markswife90 has shared her children's book with us, which is a story about:a boy with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and his service dog. The story is told through the eyes a new friend who is also learning about CP and service dogs. Resources for teaching about CP and services dogs, are also included.Visit this thread for more details on where to find it!Online Community Co-ordinator

Thank you for highlighting these books @Richard_Scope I believe books are great way and key resource in educating around a multitude of subjects including disability and CP. We need books that reflect the diversity of our population to enable children and adults to see characters that they can relate too and who reflect them. I will take a look at some of these books. Thank you.

Hi @Richard_Scope
Francesca Martnez book is awesome for those that haven’t read it. It’s also available on audible too
Another great series for younger readers is Jon Blake’s Thimble books whose central character has Cerebral Palsy (Thimble Monkey superstar, Thimble holiday havoc, Thimble Wong’s bonkers)
For parents looking to introduce CP - Hemiplegia to their child and the use of splints a great book is Brenda Palmer Hands up for Andie. It also promotes awareness of others and touches on important areas such as bullying and sharing
Hope these help -
Hi @Richard_Scope
I’ve just thought of another great book : Lee Ridley - I'm Only In It for the Parking: Life and Laughter from the Priority Seats
AKA Lost Voice Guy -
My Left Foot.
I read this in year 9 at school and fell in love with the book, I have my own copy now and have read it multiple times. It was turned into a film too. -
That’s a great shout? @MarkN88. I read My left foot at school too. Made quite an impression on me as a kid
Powerful performance by Daniel Day Lewis in the film
