Carers entitlement

Hi All.    My daughter received PIP up to October 2018 when it was lost.  On Appeal the following year it was reinstated.  My husband had the carers entitlement on his ESA payments up to October 2018 and I assumed seeing they cancelled it without us having to tell them that they would automatically restart when the tribunal was won.  It is only recently I have noticed this hasnt happened. I have spoke to ESA who have said that carers allowance unit should have put it back on their computer and i need to tell them this.  I have then spoken to the carers unit who have said I have to make a new claim, so will lose all the back payments.    I am just confused as to who is right.  I would have thought as its a error on the carers unit side that it would just be backdated as its alot of money.  He does not claim carers allowance as such because he is on ESA so it is normally added to his entitlement there.   Hope this all makes sense and someone could help me.    Thankyou

You cannot get the carer premium added to the ESA without claiming CA.

I suggest asking for an anytime revision of the decision to close the CA claim but in case that fails it may be sensible to make a new claim too.

I understand that you have to claim CA to get the premium added to ESA but seeing the claim just restarted from when they originally cancelled it I thought that that should have restarted the same without having to re apply as in theory it hadnt stopped.

The PIP claim stopped. As a result the CA stopped. Subsequently PIP has been reinstated. It appears CA were not informed so there isn’t a CA claim. Different DWP departments are not good at taking to each other.
