Ho all just tolet ou know my husband brian is coming HOME today after almost 14 weeks in hospital, to say I am over the moon isan under statement. I did get to see Brian on Saturday for an hour as they have now started to allow 1 visitor for an hour. It was as if the last few months had flown bye. We both cried a little, he is looking good but we have a long way to, but now he's home hopefully he will recover better. I have a cake and banners ready for him, god I am so happy I want to shout it from the roof tops.

@karen1812 that is good news for you both, it's been a long time, wishing you both well and enjoy the cake.

@karen1812 that's great news, it might take him a little time to get used to being at home again as 14 weeks is a long spell in hospital, but you are right it is often easier to recover at home.
Can you send me a piece of virtual coming home cake?2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡 -

Hi all update on brian he is doing quite well better than I expected bit slow other mobility side but doing his exercises daily. We have the carers coming in to shower him, his eyesight has been effect has lost hal vision in both eyes and his memory is hit and miss but he is alive he has been out today to the park which he really enjoyed he gets up and down the stairs with help but he total shattered so will only take him out once a week while he builds his strength but over all I am happy with his progress

That's great news little baby steps but sounds like he is making good progress
You sound like a very supportive wife to him just make sure you look after yourself too
Do something for yourself when carers are there -
Thank you for your update @karen1812 - it's really good to hear that Brian is making some progress, & that he's doing his exercises (that's the long-retired physio in me coming out). I hope you were having a nice, sunny day today for his trip to the park. I'm sure getting outside a little will be much enjoyed. I hope you are keeping well, & looking after yourself too.

Thank you for your kind words and support, I am going back to work tomorrow but I am thinking about getting a job where I am only out for a few hours a day my daughter is working from home at present so brian won't be on his own she can make him a sandwich and hot drink as he is unable to make anything hot due to his poor eye sight and he would be unsafe. I think me being out the house for 8 hours 3 days a week is going to be to much for me and then coming home to look after brian whe my daughter returns to the office, plus I am a carer myself so I wouldn't really get a break lol. We have just received the blue badge and stated the process of claiming PIP. But any way things can only get better onwards and upwards. Will keep you informed ?

I agree working all those hours could become draining for you
Have you had a care needs assessment or sensory team assessment fir him they can suggest lots of useful gadgets to help him
I am sight impaired awaiting my assessment but I use a one cup kettle thing you just press a button and heats up water and dispenses into cup so you dont have to lift anything up it's a life saver for me -
Hi @karen1812 good to see Brian is making progress, slowly but surely.

Hi janer1967 we have appointment with the eye specialist end of April to access brians condition maybe then we will no more about it from what I have read the chances of a recovery from the condition are slim but I will ask lots of questions when we go. At present brian use a zimmer frame I think until he can walk with a stick or unaided he will have to wait needs a least 1 hand free lol but I will defo keep that in mind xx
-
Of course I'm in a wheelchair so didnt think of him not being able to carry a drink and the risk of spilling it
Maybe he could have a perching stool next to it then he could make it and drink it all sat down
Just thinking of ways he could be bit more independent you could always supervise until you are sure he is safe -
Janer1967 we have stool as he likes to wash up lol and I understand what your saying he is nervous about making a drink so I will wait a while but that suggestion is very good when he is not so nervous ?

Blimey, a man who likes to wash up... I wish my husband felt the same, well cleaning in general so pleased that Brian is doing well! Hope you're doing okay too @karen1812Disability Gamechanger - 2019
