Finally after a very long wait had my home visit today
Got some good solutions and gadgets to help me around the house
They are coming out again with a mobility expert to see if they can come up with anything to get me out of the house a bit more
Was a worthwhile visit

Very pleased to read that, just sorry you had a long wait. Hopefully they come up with a way of getting you out of the house more too.

Great news @janer1967, hopefully this is the start of some positive change for you.
When I finally had an assessment from my local sensory team it was a super spring board for building up my confidence.
I attend something known as a visual aids appointment every year which is for me to check out any new gadgets that might be of use to me, will you have something like that going forward?Online Community CoordinatorConcerned about another member's safety or wellbeing? Flag your concerns with us.

@Ross_Scope yes they did mention a referral to something similar where it is like a library of gadgets that you loan and can change if your needs change
Got to get consultant to refer next time I see him
They are wanting to see if they can build my confidence to go out on my own even if its just to the coffee shop a short distance away
Obviously being in a wheelchair as well is the challenge to make sure I would be safe operating my power chair with little vision -
Glad your getting the help you need

Speaking from experience those visual aids appintments can be very useful @janer1967 so I would certainly recommend them if you get offered the chance. I've received all sorts of stuff that I never knew I needed.
Hopefully they can help you with your mobility too, keep us updated about how things goOnline Community CoordinatorConcerned about another member's safety or wellbeing? Flag your concerns with us.

Positive home visit, hopefully the gadgets help as well

Glad to hear it went well @janer1967 Thank you for mentioning about the visual aids appointment @Ross_Scope I remember attending one at my general hospital when I was under the sensory team. However, you've just made me realise I have not had an appointment with them since 2017 - well overdue I think!Disability Gamechanger - 2019

Also, do you use public transport? Anyone mentioned bus hailers? -
@Username_removed the assessment I had was from part of social services where they visit the home and assess your home bit like care needs assessment but focused on vision
Looking at lighting , kitchen appliances, reading . The brought dark glasses and examples of magnifiers and the bump dots for oven and appliances
From your explanation she was talking about getting referred for visual aids appointment
I don't use public transport too much with the wheelchair as well -
@Username_removed thanks no appt sorted yet as I have to get referral but now you have explained I will make sure I get right one
The next appt I mentioned is same sensory team but with mobility specialist as well to see any help with getting out as the cane training isn't really applicable
Thanks for explaining it all
