    Hi there

Not me personally but I know of quite few people refused surgery due to weight

My sister was refused hip surgery till she lost weight.  She ended up having gastric band surgery but she did have to lose weight first b4 having that

The surgery has been huge success she was about 28 stone and now 11 and had hip and knee surgery too

But it is a hard long road and takes years andots of wlpower

You have to do liquid diet b4 and after band surgery

It was NHS but at your weight I don't know if they would consider it

Think but not sure you need to be at risk of your health for NHS speak to your gp

Are you looking at a replacement knee or some other kind of knee surgery?

I ask this because I know age is also a restriction on replacement knees. I know of people in their 50s and 60s that have been told they are too young because the replacement has a life expectancy. Basically they are told to come back later.

(I find this odd myself, as surely someone in their 60s who is otherwise fit and healthy would benefit more now than when they are in their 70s or 80s and by that time may have other reasons they can't walk?)

I'm only 40. I don't know what knee surgery I need yet I'm just been referred but I just enquired about bariatric surgery but was told need to be bmi of 40, I'm 37, and need to have diabetes or high blood pressure. I have knee problems and can't walk but apparently it's not good enough. Very disheartened

Yes I thought there were some restrictions to surgery

Unfortunately the weight loss will have to be self driven but you can get help through NHS

I know it isn't easy without being able to exercise but @chiarieds once posted some good sitting exercise links

I had complete knee replacement surgery about 10yrs ago. It is still the best part of my body; it works well and gives me no trouble. Now awaiting hip replacement.
