I have one a year posted to me but had to do last sample at drs but was all clear my mum did  a sample at the drs yesterday so fingers crossed for her

Why? These are home tests for those that may benefit from them......an age group thought to be potentially at risk, aged currently 60+. I fear tho you may mean well you are confusing the issue...why did you & your Mum have samples taken at, presumably your GPs? Have your messages & posts been at all supportive of Willow?

People do not randomly get bowel screening tests posted to them, nor can they ask for them. It's at the request if there is a medical concern by a person's Dr. if younger than 60, as well as any older patients who may be identified as having medical concerns between taking such home tests. Please take care with your posts & messages.

    Hi @chiarieds,

It seems as though perhaps there are two conversations going on, one around @alex19's test, and one around bowel screening home kits that are ordinarily sent every 2 years to those aged 60-74 years old. You can still get a home testing kit every 2 years once you're 75 years or older, but you have to request it by phoning the free bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 60 60. It doesn't seem as though @lisathomas50 was trying to be unsupportive, just replying to a different topic.

I'm sure we're all united in our well wishes and support for @alex19, so let's keep this thread positive and on-track :)

Of course, if anyone is worried about their symptoms, they should speak to their GP right away. Here are some commons symptoms of bowel cancer to look out for. I'd highly encourage anyone who receives the bowel cancer screening kit to complete it and send it back. Sarah, from the Bowel Screening Service, wrote a post for us a few months ago which is worth a read.

Sorry @Tori_Scope -  I was just trying to correct a wrongful assumption Lisa made about these bowel cancer screening tests, which had upset Willow (contact off the forum). See: https://forum.scope.org.uk/discussion/comment/432381#Comment_432381 I therefore gave a link to the NHS Bowel Cancer screening tests on that thread. However, this was then continued here by Lisa posting about these 'home tests' with her & her Mum doing samples at their Drs...... I would politely suggest I wasn't the one going off track, rather correcting misinformation. My posts (as well as those of many other members), Willow knows, are totally in support of her.

I hope you’re keeping ok @Alex19 I understand how apprehensive it can be awaiting test results but it sounds like you’ve acted quickly on your concerns and are following the best medical practice out there.

Although unconnected to your experience, I have 3 yearly colonoscopies to monitor against a heightened risk of developing bowel cancer (due to having IBD) and I know this always makes me feel very appreciative of the NHS and my care team but equally scared at the same time.  Also @bekindalways – I have the sedation too!

Saying that @Alex19, you are in the absolute best hands possible.  We are all rooting for you so please keep us updated with how you get on (if you feel comfortable).

@lisathomas50 Ah, I knew there was a recommendation for bowel screening to start from the age of 50 in England and Wales but I wasn’t sure of a firm roll out date for that.  The only dates I could see mentioned were in this NHS Wales guidance which says:

I am not 60 yet, can I be screened?
Evidence supports population screening in the 50 - 74 age group. In Wales, there is an improvement plan to offer screening to those aged 50- 59 by April 2023 and we have developed a plan to achieve this in stages. You will be invited by Bowel Screening Wales according to this plan.

Remember to include those references to official sources where possible so we can ensure information shared is factually correct.

@lisathomas50 think this needs some clarity so others are not confused

You first say it is available for those over 50 in Wales

Then you say those who are high risk and over 50b

Which is correct and do you have anything to backup this claim
