Interesting and unusual places you have been and the people you have met.

After looking at some old photo's lately I got to thinking about some of the interesting places I have been and the people I have met.
On one trip to the USA. My wife took me down to the tunnels under the Capitol building. A place few people get to see. We travelled on a little train to where all the senators have their office's. It was like being on the set of a Bond film. Many were empty, but we managed to get into some and take a look around. In one there was a secretary. She gave us passes to get into the public area of the senate building that was in session. The very same we see on TV sometimes. She also gave me an American flag that had flown over the Capitol itself, along with the provenance saying so signed by a senator.
On another trip we went with her brother to a church where the former President Jimmy Carter was giving a speech and later met with him and his wife.
The senator's office's is somewhere I don't think we could get to again, especially after the attack on the capitol building in January.

I'm sure many of you have been to unusual places, met interesting people, or done something out of the ordinary, planned or otherwise?

I don't have anything interesting to contribute, really, but just want to say you are making some interesting threads lately @Dragonslayer please keep it up :)

Something I have done that I found interesting, but that most people will probably find boring, was being driven around a race track by a professional racing driver. That really showed me what a car can be capable of in the hands of somebody who knows what they are doing. The speeds he took the corners at really surprised me - I had a go before being the passenger and was doing half the speeds he was doing - yet we got round smoothly and with no issues. I felt perfectly safe for the duration.

    Thanks for sharing.
I found what you did very interesting and not at all boring. It was a something many don't get the chance to do. I can imagine the speeds he took on the corners. Did that bother you at all? Which track was it?

    Thanks @Dragonslayer :)

It was the Lotus test track in Hethel in Norfolk. The speeds didn’t bother me at all and I felt safe although I wouldn’t have felt OK doing those speeds with me driving!!

He was really “wrestling” with the car, full acceleration, stamping on the brakes etc. Really exciting :)
