PIP and student loans

I've been told that if I am awarded a disability benefit, such as PIP, then my outstanding student debt could be cancelled!

I have an outstanding tuition fees loan from the Student Loans Company and, since graduation, my income has not risen above the repayment threshold, so I have never started to pay it off.

If I am awarded PIP (currently in Mandatory Reconsideration) does anyone know if it's true that it could result in my debt being written off?

Sounds too good to be true...

PIP is a disability benefit, it’s not earnings.

I’m not aware of any student loan being written off for this reason. People claim PIP and work.

It would only be cancelled if a doctor, consultant or psychiatrist declared you permanently unfit for work.

@Cress yeah I found it.

However the OP needs to bear in mind getting a disability benefit alone won’t get there outstanding balances cleared.

Looks like.

1. You get PIP.

2. You need a letter from Dr, stating you are unfit for any kind of work.

Think number 2 will be a big hurdle.

Interested in OP thoughts.

It actually states:

a doctor, consultant or psychiatrist which says you’re ‘permanently unfit for work’, dated within the last 6 months

Which I personally think is a big thing for a doctor to commit to.
