Bedspread

probably sounds silly but I’m trying to remember the name of a particular type of bedspread which used to be common years ago. The type I’m thinking of was made of cotton but looked a bit like corduroy?

Anyone who was born round about the 60s will have had one...mine was white

I really liked mine too, that’s why I wanted the name because I’d like to buy one for old times sake...and comfort of course. Thank you so much @vikingqueen ?

I remember them ! i am definitely older than I look
It reminds me of the winters when we would wake up with frost on the INSIDE of the bedroom windows.2024 The year of the general election...the time for change is coming 💡 -
Mine was pink, but it had bald patches where the tufty bits had been pulled out.

@woodbine I just remember them being soft and comfortable, I use sheets and blankets you see rather than a duvet. A duvet makes me feel as though I’m being slow cooked!
I recall 1963 winter very well, burst pipes and was it two or three months of freezing weather? And we still had to go to school!“This is my simple religion. No need for temples. No need for complicated philosophy. Your own mind, your own heart is the temple. Your philosophy is simple kindness.”

I remember my brother built me an igloo in our garden in the 1963 freeze, and I also remember the thaw because all the houses on our street flooded. My eldest brother use to work in a mill nearby and that too was badly flooded and they asked everyone if they would go in to clear up. They made the "candy stripe sheets" and he was allowed to bring home a pile of them that were written off. My mother boiled washed them and never needed to buy another sheet for a lot of years...
And yes I remember scraping ice off the inside of my bedroom window... ah the good old days -
I have bedspread in summer rather than quilt
Not the candlewick ones but they are a lot lighter and cooler than a duvet
Also saves the marathon task of changing duvet cover
They are quite easy to get now and some lovely designs -
I only use bedspreads some are quite thick these days and lovely designs I struggle with duvets and don't like those old type blankets lol

I wasn't born in the 60's but i remember them because my dear nan used to use them.I lived with her from my early teens and she never had a washing machine so when it came to washing the bedding she used the bath I often think of that and wonder how on earth she used to manage and she was almost 70 when i went to live with her and almost 80 when i moved out. Personally, i always use duvets.I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
