Finally!! My Hearing Is Getting Looked At

Sorry I've been away for a bit. I finally have an assessment on my ears tomorrow! A Doctor phoned and asked to speak with me.
And... I asked him to repeat that! And this was the morning. It's going to be one of those weeks. 
Also I'm being referred to a Restart Work Programme separately which will be hilarious as I'll probably hear 0.7% of the words said.
I might joke about my hearing going. But I do take it seriously. 
So hearing appointment tomorrow at three.
And Restart interview this afternoon at 2.50. There is obviously work for the hard of hearing. I just think I'll be needing more specialised companies, rather than palmed off on UC.
Will update on either. And I'm not "suffering". I focus on the ear that is the quietest to help me sleep. I'm not suffering but I'm still inconvenienced as this is a huge barrier to work.
How am I expected to assist customers or complete tasks if I can only hear the odd word?
Oh well, the seconds count down.

    First off it was a bad line. Enjoyed asking stuff to be repeated. Even funnier was the DWP person was not only listening in but I could hear her Darth Vader breathing. And softly repeating what I said to type up. Ah what a world 
    You really need a sense of the absurd with these things. ;)

    Sorry! Hands full. I'll get a letter of my appointment to whatever clinic my treatment specializes in.
    Can add "Too young to need a hearing aid" to "Our records show it improves in summer!'.
    I'm not negging on my Doctor. It was good to see one and they seemed happier I was in better health that when I'd last saw them over a year ago (I'm not blaming them or lockdown)

    Well! NOT too young to wear a hearing aid then. Went for a hearing appointment (Finally!!) and yes, my hearing is in the 40's. Not the 30's, 20's or 10's people usually have.
    So now waiting for next appointment looking at a hearing aid. 
    Sent a message to Universal Credit people. Well I'd class this as a change in circumstances.
    They haven't got back yet. Ah, the Merry-go-round of paper shuffling commences!
    I might be going deaf. But when I lose my sarcasm, then when you start worrying for me.

    Thanks for your update. I am glad you finally managed to get a hearing appointment and strategies to support you were finally identified. How do you feel about wearing hearing aids? Keep up your great humour, the world needs it! Though we are here for you and we appreciate this could be a difficult time especially with chasing up universal credit  :)

    I'm glad to hear that things are moving forward @AZF and that you're in good spirits about it. Sometimes it really does help you get through all the hoops, admin, and going back and forth/round and round, as you say!

    I'd be interested to know what your hearing aid is like, assuming you'll hopefully be getting one. I'm sure the technology and the look of them has improved over the years.

    We're looking forward to hearing more as and when :)

    I wear glasses so a hearing aid won't be that much of a stretch. If I can get my aid installed into the frame, then that's sorted.
    If not, I'll carry them around with me and wear when needed. I've never forgot (or forgiven) just how terrible people are to perceived differences.
    But I feel this place is accomodating. We are in the same bowl to an extent. If we work together we can help and raise each other up. 
    I won't know anything until I receive the appointment letter. But at least I'm happy it's not just something in my head. There really is something wrong that can be managed.

    Good luck with your hearing aides.


    I wear NHS hearing aides and glasses - the face mask does sometimes tip me over the edge as trying to walk on crutches whilst all steamed up with the glasses can be a step too far.

    My hearing aides came very quickly and batteries are sent by post and so they are not a hassle.

    I hope you get on Ok with yours - I certainly have less weird conversations now I wear them and look less confused as I don't have to guess every second or third word 

    Good luck with them .

    Blimey! Since last December!
    Well Happy New Year and apologies I didn't get back in touch earlier. Am now the proud owner of a pair of Phonak Nathos earpieces. And I can hear stuff a bit better! Yes, there's still the ringing sounds, but I'm now able to follow more conversations.
    And here the bones in my knees creak. Technology is wonderful!
