Hi I was hoping to find out a little more if possible.
I was on the lowest rate of DWP but as I lost my mobility during lockdown I applied for PIP in May 21. I received my award letter today which states they will start the award in January. I was wondering do they not start the award when you apply as it takes so very long?
My DWP will stop in December and my higher rate of PIP will start in January.
If you have any advice for me I would appreciate that.
Thank you!

For a DLA to PIP transfer the DLA award will end and the PIP award will start about 4 weeks after the decision on the award is made That will be in December. PIP is then paid 4 weeks in arrears, which will be in early January.
Although your first PIP payment is in January the PIP award will have started 4 weeks before the payment date.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Rules may be different in other parts of UK. -

In this case you mean DLA, i'm sure.As calcotti has advised, there's no backdated money when transfering accross, even if the PIP award is higher.I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying. If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.
