Hi @6nuggets thanks for reaching out, and welcome. That's a very good question. I have a left foot accelerator myself, but I was lucky enough to get it via Motability. I can certainly see if I can find out!
In the meantime, I've marked your post as unanswered so that someone more knowledgeable can find it and answer

Thank you. Unfortunately he doesn’t qualify for mobility but the adaptions are costing a small fortune0

Yes, they are not cheap sadly!
You may have already found this, so apologies if so: "Driving Assessment Grant Programme for disabled drivers who do not currently use the Motability Scheme" https://www.drivingmobility.org.uk/news/motability-awards-grant-for-new-pilot-at-driving-mobility-centres-to-get-more-disabled-people-motoring/

Is your son in work? He might be able to get some help through Access to Work, as long as he can evidence clearly that the ability to drive (safely!) is essential to his work. There's more information at the bottom of this page: https://www.motaclarity.co.uk/charitable-grants
Scope's Support to Work service also offers help with Access to Work applications0
