Our daughter has cerebral palsy, is aged 37, and receives full time care in a nursing home located in Gloucestershire. Her world has been adversely affected by the pandemic. She has become isolated and insular and we are seeking  a safe online pen friend type service to.help her re-connect with the world safely, following  the most awful experience she has had to ensure  with a scammer which is now sorted after 8 months. Can you point us in the direction of any support services in the area please? Thank you in advance for your help. Regards Mair and Andrew

Hello @mairy and welcome to the community, it's nice to see you join us.

I'm sorry to hear of what your daughter had to go through with the scammer, but I'm glad it has been resolved. Integrating and getting involved with some support services sounds like a good idea and would be a good way for her to meet new people in a safe environment.

Of course, she would be welcome to join this online community, we have many members who have CP and there is a virtual CP cafe that she could attend. If you are looking for something in your local area, it might be worth contacting your local council to see if they have a directory of local events and services for disabled people.

Thank you Ross for responding. Unfortunately, she has very limited mobility and restricted to a wheelchair, but only confident to use it indoors, thus my question about online services. I will contact the council. I thought that you may know of other options available given the CP connection. Thank you anyway.

    Hi @Mairy
The virtual CP cafe is held through an online call, so it can be attended completely remotely :)  You can view the full details on this page including instructions about how to join.

    Hi @Mairy
If you email me at richard.luke@scope.org.uk and give me an email address for your daughter, I can make sure that your daughter is added to the virtual cafe. I also run a completely Scope based virtual group called Network CP.

Network CP is a special interests group for the Cerebral Palsy community and their families in England and Wales which will help Scope shape various strands of its work.
