Welcome to the community @Ronnieb
It's great to have you with us! How are you doing today?
You're welcome to take a look around, and get stuck in whenever you feel ready. Two good places to visit are the categories page, and the list of the most recent discussions on the community.
Would you like to start off by telling us a little bit about yourself, or why you've joined the community today?0 -
Hi Tori
I am trying to come to terms with my difficulties. I have now been retired on health grounds and feel overwhelmed by it all. I have spondylitis of spine and neck osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and chronic pain and recently been diagnosed with diverticulitis disease and kidney disease.I won’t go on I just need guidance and others who can offer any guidance and support. I use to be a very independent person but now need to come to terms with needing help at times. Thanks for allowing me to join.0 -
Hi and welcome to the community
You need to call pip helpline to get a copy of your award letter try first thing at 9am to stand s better chance of getting through1 -
@Ronnieb Welcome & thanks for joining us.
I do not have the specific issues that you have outlined, but I am sure others on this community will have.
I see my colleague @janer1967 has given you practical advice regarding you PIP.
I had a huge part of my independence taken away from me two yrs ago due to an acute hospitalisation. I am still coming to terms with that. I would be happy to share experiences if you wanted.0 -
Thanks you all and Peter that would be helpful.
I just feel powerless.
I am not a moaner usually but when I think not long ago I was in a role helping others and now needing basics doing for me has been very difficult. But I'm trying to be optimistic. Thanks0 -
Hi @Ronnieb I will return tomorrow.
Honestly, do not feel bad to 'moan' about life - especially on this community. I too am not a moaner, I have no grudge/chip about being disabled. BUT the life changing experience has left me really 'powerless' to use your words.
I will be back - I promise!
Have a good evening.

Hello @Ronnieb 😊. Thank you so much for reaching out. It’s wonderful to have you join us on the Scope Community!
I am new myself, I only started as a volunteer recently. Personally I have back pain, and I can relate to the way you are feeling. I am so sorry to hear you are finding it difficult to come to terms with being disabled.
How are you? I hope you are having a nice week? Perhaps you could ask your GP to refer you for counselling? Take care0 -
Hi, thanks for the replies. I have a daughter who has special needs and has 3 wonderful boys. They are aged 1 to 7 years old. I use to be able to take them for weeks on end to give mum and dad a break, but due to my increasing difficulties, I can now only manage a day or two days if am lucky with help. I looking for activities that we can enjoy together but they are so expensive. Can anyone suggest any fun days or free lessons that I can go to with the children they are the only outlet of joy I get these days?
I have been in touch with the school for the older two and SSD but they are not able to advise of any.
I have been advised by the falls team that they recommend I have a scooter I am so stubborn, I'm worried I will lose my mobility altogether I feel so frustrated at the moment as just a walk to the park is now hard for me to complete.
I have also found out today that I have COPD from an x-ray I had some time ago after having bronchiolar pneumonia. I don't smoke so am puzzled as to how I have this condition. I am planning on seeing my GP later this week as I need all of the test results I have had.
Thanks
Ronnie
