Hi all, I’m confused and looking for financial help.
My mother claims high rate pip - care and mobility.
ESA support group etc.
I look after her, I am her cater although I do not claim carers allowance.

I’ve been doing some research, well trying, but I’m gettin flummoxed.
I should mention that I already claim UC … If I claim carers allowance, that comes off my mothers SDP that I know
but I’ve read that money also gets deducted off my own universal credit claim.

So how exactly does anybody come off any better?
Can any one give me some figures please?
Thankyou.

Thankyou, so if I claimed just the carers element, no further money would be deducted from my own UC claim?Unlike if I was to claim CA?If I claim carers allowance they take it from my mums SPD and then take it also off my UC claim because it’s classed as an income?Which one would benefit us both the best? Which one has us losing the least amount of money? I don’t see a win.0

So I don’t even get back what she loses? It doesn’t even out?She loses £70 a week and I gain £160 a month? Wow. Okay thankyou.0

Basically yes. She would be a lot worse off financially if you claimed either CA or carers element.jamrumples said:So I don’t even get back what she loses? It doesn’t even out?She loses £70 a week and I gain £160 a month? Wow. Okay thankyou.
If your UC includes the LCWRA element for yourself then you won’t be able to claim the carers element because the same person can’t receive both elements.0
