    Hi,
First you need to speak to the housing company to see if you can bid on those properties. If you also claim for help with your rent from either Universal Credit or housing benefit then you will need to speak to them to ask if you can claim for extra bedrooms. I suspect that they answer could be no because they don't live with you the majority of the time.
As it's social housing if they say no to the extra bedrooms then you can of course pay the bedroom tax yourself.

I'll be totally honest and say it's extremely unlikely you'll be able to receive extra help with rent for bedrooms that are only used on the weekend. You can of course pay the extra rent yourself to make up the shortfall.

From my own experience  and from people I know about  the counciol and social housing will only give you a one bed property normaly if you live on your own because the children don't live with you full time

You could speak to them and ask, you have options that  may work for you, you could get bed settees so  that when your children stay the settee pulls out into a bed  so they have somewhere to sleep or the other option is private rent

Try speaking to the counciol/social housing first and see what they say  you could also get in touch with shelter who may be able to help you

I'm more than happy to do that but the council won't let me bid on 2 bedrooms  only 1

That will be because you only have your children on weekends and this doesn’t justify needing an extra bedroom.

Yes i totally agree but it's the rules. If an extra bedroom was needed for a regular overnight carer then this would be different.
They could privately rent with more bedrooms but it's very likely they wouldn't be entitled to extra help with any rent outside the 1 bedroom rate of LHA.

Triangulation of housing shortages, budget cuts & unbending bureaucracy? Citizen's Advice: "If you share the care of your child with the child's other parent, your child will be treated as living with the parent who provides the child's main home."
To others, wondering: OP private-renting + DHP = long journey with no guarantees or support since deemed 'adequately housed', or worth looking into as LA social housing stock becomes +1 up?
