New claim PIP... PAPER BASED?

Hello all, I've put a new claim in for pip in Feb 2022, forms was received in May 2022, I got a message on Monday stating they have received my report back and they will have a decision hopefully in 8 weeks.

I haven't spoken to any one, no f2f no telephone interview absolutely nothing.

So I called pip and they said the assesors contacted my gp and got a good review of my health and has included enough for them to do a paper based assessment.

I received my report yesterday they have suggested 13 points for daily living and 10 points for mobility,

My it shouldn't like my gp has gone into great detail on how my condition effect me and I don't feel there anything more that could have been gained from a f2f....

I'm eagerly awaiting my decision now the gentlemen who sent the report said he suspects ill have a decision this week or next... well its Fri now nearly 4pm so I doubt this week. Will I get a message I've seen others receive if they've been awarded?

Thanks for taking the time to read I appreciate any input 🙂

Decisions can take between 2-12 weeks, sometimes longer. They mostly go with the report but it has been known for them to go against it, though that is rare.
They do seem to be sending text messages for those that have been successfully awarded but this is a new thing they've started doing.
If successfully awarded and you haven't transferred from DLA then money usually goes into your bank before you receive the decision letter.

Thank you for the reply, could someone help me understand this if possible.

    On my report I received
Activity 11: planning and following route.

    She wrote 11e

Cannot undertake any journey because the details described in in the telephone call to Dr Dixon, she's she is extremely anxious and is struggling to leave her home atall, she's currently only able to get out when she has to attend appointments and this has been ongoing for some time now, when she has been able to attend surgery appointments, her partner has always accompanied her and she relies heavily on his support to cope, most of her appointments are done via telephone as she's unable to make it to the surgery, this would suggest she's unable to go out on the majority of days due to overwhelming psychological distress.

I had a appointment with citizen advice and they asked how I've been getting on ( debt related) but I've been dealing with this same person for a number of months now, so what built a friendship kind of thing she always checks how I'm getting on with my mental state as she's heard me over the phone when we first reached out for support and she's seen just how my mental health effects the simplest of tasks. My partner took over the call when I explained we just received my assessment report and she asked him to read it out to her... she agreed with it all APART FROM ^^^^^^ Activity 11e as recommended she feels section F should be recommended.

Either way I'm happy if they go with the assessors report as it suggested EH DL & STD MOB

can anyone offer any advice? Would what the assesors wrote indicate Activity e or f ?

    Thank you 😊

If on the majority of days you cannot leave the house then 11e is appropriate. If you meet descriptor 11e you cannot meet 11f.

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/personal-independence-payment-assessment-guide-for-assessment-providers/pip-assessment-guide-part-2-the-assessment-criteria#mobility-activities
This descriptor applies to claimants where undertaking any journey on the majority of days causes overwhelming psychological distress (OPD) despite being aided.
    ...
A claimant who satisfies 1E cannot also satisfy 1F. If they cannot undertake a single journey on the majority of days due to overwhelming psychological distress, then 1E will be the applicable descriptor, even if there are occasions when they could follow a familiar route, if accompanied.
So yes, what is written would have indicate 11e.

Yes i agree, if the majority of the time you are unable to go out then 1E would be the correct descriptor here.

Possibly worth adding too that this is a common misunderstanding.

Okay thank you guys for taking the time to reply, as I said I'm more than happy with the report overall and the recommendations that's been made, just worried with it being only paper based ill be turned down 😫

My anxiety is through the roof with it all and I have a telephone assessment with uc nx week too!

I was also told on the phone when requesting the report should have a decision this week or nx. Well this week's now nearly over with so fx for next week... but I've done alot of reading it looks like they shouldn't really give a indication on time frame as most wait 2-12 weeks.

Now to try and put it to the back of my mind x

They do mostly go with the report. It’s rare they go against it but it can happen. I’ve had 3 paper based assessments and all of them have been successfully awarded.
Backlogs cause delays which can’t be helped.

Thanks I'm trying my best but I'm a little obsessive when I've got something in my head! This makes my mental health 10x worse but I'm going to follow your advice and try put it out my head for a while.

Which is why it's not always a good idea to receive a copy of the report.

If I'm honest I think I agree poppy! I'm going to try and keep myself occupied, I'm trying to get my concentration better so I can maybe try watch a series on Netflix.. Reading isn't a option after a couple of lines I get agitated really wish I could pick and book up and read 😕

Good luck with trying to keep yourself occupied @kekk1234. We recognise that it is easier said than done.

What might you watch on Netflix? I finish my dissertation this weekend so I'll need more recommendations for next week and onwards!

If we can do anything else to support you, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are all here for you  :)

What kinds of TV shows do you enjoy @kekk1234

Do you feel you're receiving enough support to help you manage your mental health at the moment?

Well done @kekk1234 :) Are you able to relax a bit more now?

I like those kinds of shows too. I often enjoy ITV's dramas based on real crime cases. Have you been watching anything good recently?

I'm so pleased to hear about your PIP @kekk1234 that's a big weight off your shoulders :)

If you need a hand with your UC assessment, feel free to post over in our Universal Credit category, and we'll do what we can to help.

Hey Alex thanks for the reply, I'm not sure what I would need help with, they lost my completed form so have said they will proceed without it, they have contacted my gp with a form, gp has filled that in and returned it, so as it stands they have nothing to go off? My disability is mental health so I presume I'll just be asked how it effects my everyday? What I struggle with and things I'm okay with? Never had one of these before and as my pip was paper based I didn't have a assessment as such 🤷‍♀️

That's okay @kekk1234 as you say, you've never had one of these before, so how could you be sure what to expect? :)

Just so I understand fully, is it an assessment for a particular element of UC, like a Work Capability Assessment? Or something else?

Yes work capability assessment for universal credit, I started handing in my fitnotes in March 2022 and should have had a app on 27th July for my assessment but they cancelled it and its the 25th Aug now by telephone after my gp said f2f wouldn't be doable, gp has told them I don't leave my house unless it's absolutely necessary and even then it's only to attend appointments at the gp practice, most of my consultations are done via telephone but I have to have regular bloods due to hormone imbalance, also I have to have scheduled scans of my heart as the medication I'm on for my mental health can cause heart problems and as I suffer with panic attacks alot they need to be sure the fluttering around my heart is definitely down to panic attacks and not the medication having effects on my heart xx

Thanks for explaining that @kekk1234 it's really helpful :)

It's sounds like you're getting good support for your GP, that's positive to hear. To answer your earlier questions:
My disability is mental health so I presume I'll just be asked how it effects my everyday? What I struggle with and things I'm okay with?
The healthcare professional should have read your questionnaire (ESA50/UC50) and should ask you questions about your typical day and any problems you have. So yes, you're right there.

Following this assessment, the healthcare professional will send their report to the DWP.

How are you feeling about that?
