Would it not contradict the claim?

In another thread you said you weren’t ready to return to any form of work, whether that’s paid or volunteering.
Volunteering would come under permitted work when claiming ESA.

I’m thinking for the future, poppy. I need a sense of ambition or at least some saving grace to think there will be help for me when I’m ready.

    Does that make sense?

It does make sense @sierrafox volunteering is a great way to build up experience and confidence, and to decide without any pressure if something is right for you :)

You would have to bear in mind that it comes up under permitted work when claiming ESA, but it's positive that you're looking into it.

What sort of volunteering might you like to do?
