Universal credit, and backdate for sons disability payment?

Hi there, i am on universal credit, and my son has just been awarded the enhanced rate of PIP. I still get child benefit and he's still in school. His payment has been backdated to october last year, so should i be getting a backdated disabled childs payment? I notified UC last week as soon as we got the letter, as was unable to let them know before we knew, and it's going to a decision maker. Does anyone know what this means and how long it will take? thanks so much for any help

I am not certain about the answer to your question about the disabled child element for your son, but hopefully the process doesn't take too long. I have tagged your post as unanswered so hopefully you will be able to receive further replies

If the PIP award includes Enhanced daily living then you'll be entitled to the higher rate disabled child element of £414.88 per month. This would have been slightly less than this person month before 11th April 2022. It will be payable from the assessment period in which the changes took place. (start of the PIP award)For standard daily living it will be the lower rate of £132.89 per month.You will also be able to claim carers element of £168.81 per month, providing you don't claim the LCWRA element for yourself. You will need to report a change of circumstances and tell them you care for them for at least 35 hours per week. This element maybe difficult to backdate to the start of the PIP award unless you told them you care for your child previously.0

Before they can pay you what they owe you they have to recalculate your past statements to work out what you should have been paid, against what you have been paid. You will then receive the difference between the 2.Once this is done you'll receive a letter onto your journal telling you how much they owe and it will be paid into your bank.0

Just to update on this for anyone else.....I eventually received the backdated payment, but had to request it as exceptional circumstances, it wasn't automatically awarded. So anyone else doing this, ask for it to be backdated to the award date, if that makes sense0

Yeah I asked for it to be backdated from award as iv only just had the decision could I ask for you lynn how long did you wait for reply and payment thankyou0

it was a good 5 or 6 weeks, and i had to keep messaging them...at one point they said they'd made a mistake, and i wasn't getting it, but i fought it! Keep messaging or ringing them and asking for a rough timescale, and don't let it go!0

Thanks for sharing your update with us @lyn3068. It sounds really positive that you eventually received the backdated payment.
Though, it sounds like you experienced a difficult time with it not being automatically awarded. How are you feeling about things at the moment? 0 -

It means that extra money has been backdated to whatever date the disability award starts from although UC consider that you reported the change late (presumably you hadn't previously told them that you are a carer)0

Hi It didn’t mention any amount etc..yeah I only let them know once I was awarded which took few month for to wait on decision x0

thats the same letter i got and they were still saying to me it hadn't been awarded when i spoke to them, so i would message them in your journal just to double check and ask if they have a timescale

Hi folks (hopefully this threat is still pretty active.) I'm in a similar position, I've received dla for 3 years now but only found out about the disability element last month, so I claimed straight away and was awarded this month. Requesting for backdate went to a decision maker and I got the same letter as above stating that there are exceptional circumstances and my UC will be adjusted. Does this mean I did qualify for backdate? If so, does it mean it will be backdated from when my dla started? (Which was 3 years ago so surely not?!) or from when I was awarded the disability element (which was last month so I won't be entitled to any backdate) any help and advice would be appreciated, trying to decipher that letter is exhausting!

What date does it say in the letter? exceptional circumstances indicates to the start of the DLA award.
