gjw59help said:Okay so bearing in mind the DWP say I am entitled to £117 a week IR but because I have paid enough contributions I will get £117 CB ie "same amount" what do you reckon the reduction would be "wife on basic state pension" if I didn't get CB ESA?
If you didn’t get CB you would be entitled to about £90/week. Please see the calculations in the thread I linked above. We’ve been through all this many times in other threads with you. Please also bear in mind that calculation in that thread was from before the April increase so the figures would be slightly higher now.0 -
Sorry but you are wrong,my letter I get every year tells me I am entitled to the same IR amount as my CB amount,I can show it to you if you want to prove that MANY TIMES you were mistaken, this is my point it doesn't say I would get any less on IR.0
-
That makes no sense because IR support group is not £117.60. Anyway, I’m out because we seem to be going round in circles.0

I agree can I suggest you actually look at the letter that everyone gets then you will understand I attach mine

That's a classic badly worded ESA letter and like i said they very often make no sense. So your ESA is as i confirmed CB and not IR.They haven't done the IR calculation but please refer to calcotti's post in the thread linked above, if there was an IR calculation then you would be worse off so because you're entitled to CB this is what you would receive anyway even if they did the calculation.0

Clear as mud, thanks for replying but I hope you understand how frustrating it is,like I said they imply that I would get the same IR amount but do not qualify for all the extra help that goes with it! signing off!0

I can understand the frustration because of the way that letter is written however it is the calculation for a contribution based ESA award. An income based award would be calculated differently and would have to include your wife on it.
If she gets the full State Pension of £185.15.
ESA standard couple allowance £121.05
Pensioner premium and Support component £157.65
Maximum amount of income based ESA £278.70
Deduct State Pension of £185.15 (and assuming no other income or savings over £6,000)
Income based ESA payable = £93.55
However because you are entitled to contribution based ESA you are paid £117.60. This is an extra £24.05/week compared to what you would be paid if he had no contribution based entitlement (an extra £1250.06/year).

I do understand the frustration with ESA letter though. They have always been the worst of DWP letters which are only possible to interpret if you already know what they should say! It is odd that. In this case the letter doesn’t even show the income based calculation.1 -
I agree it's frustrating and i'll never understand why they make those letters so difficult to understand either.
