Carers Allowance query

We applied for Carers Allowance in September and had a letter back as my carer does 15 hours of college a week. CA wanted her college to complete a form which we did. This was sent back to CA end of September 2022.

We didn't hear anything but on 28th November 2022 my carer received a lump sum from CA which equates to 7 weeks of payments which she has put aside incase an error has been made.

We received no letter so called the helpline to be told that a decision has been made but due to the letter being sent out they are unable to tell us what is in the letter as "once a decision is made the letter cannot be accesser".  With postal strikes I doubt we will ever get a letter.

Today would be approximately 4 weeks since the payment (due to Xmas) but nothing has arrived.

Can anyone advise what could have happened or had experienced the same.

We can only guess what has happened. Your carer will need to contact carers allowance to ask, they should be able to tell them whether there's been an award made because it will tell them on the computer. Contact details here.

That's where we have called - my carer went through security etc and that's when we were told once a decision has been made it cannot be accessed by staff so we need to wait for the letter which should be with us in 7/10 working days.

Is there anything else we can do?

That's not correct. The call centre can see that decision but it takes up to 24 hours before they can see it after the decision was made. As money was received i can only assume that there's been an award.

Post is taking several weeks even for some first class letters. I received post this week which was sent first class at the end of November. DWP mail is sent second class. The letter will likely come in due course.

An award must have been made because without that a payment would not have been made.

As CA is usually paid every 4 weeks they may well receive a further payment shortly.

No one here can tell you when you will be paid, only DWP can tell you that.
