What noise or object do you miss from when you were young?

I going to start this off with tin bin lid dropping on the floor at night. That was a sound that made you think, who is out there, it's also a noise we no longer hear, as we now have plastic bins. Do you remember that sound? It's also a noise the younger generation won't know about.

I miss hearing the ice cream van. They don't come around as often, even during the summerHannah - She / Her

The sound of the dial up connecting to Internet
-
Oh yeah that dial up tone. Waiting patiently to see if it would connect, then someone would answer the phone and cut it all off.
I get ice cream vans by me -
There are a few parks near me, so they tend to go park up there now.
When I was a kid, it would drive up the street everyday and everyday we were told no 😂Hannah - She / Her

We still get the van in the street like you it's always a no lol. Accasionally they come every day in summer.
What I miss are the bread man, pop man and we had a sweet man. I said to my family, you think deliveries are new. Think again -
@Sandy_123 I remember the pop man! I used to drink the dandelion and burdock when it was delivered, I had a nostalgic moment a few years ago and just picked up one in the supermarket. Not the same at all! 🤢
Oh @Ada Big Hug When I started my family history research a few years ago, I thought hard to what I was told when I asked questions as a kid.
A great reminder.Hannah - She / Her

The noise of the milkman delivering in the morning the clanging of the bottles as they sorted them out and swapped over the empties for new ones
-
Oh @janer don't forget the birds taking the cream off the top by pecking through the lid bet the birds miss that
-
Sorry to read that @ada couldn't of been nice for you
-
I remember the tin bin lid sound! My grandparents had an old tin bin - they lived out in the sticks and plastic bins hadn't found their way over that way yet
When I was a young child we had dial-up internet and I remember the sound of the internet dialling up.
I know you asked for sounds not smells but I also miss the smell of petrol from an old car, especially when it was cold. -
I don't know why petrol smells so nice
-
@Sandy_123 yeah I know, we are designed by nature to be disgusted by the smell of dangerous substances
I guess as petrol is man-made we haven't evolved to not like the smell of it -
I miss the sound of bombs falling that the starlings used to make...all the time!
I also miss the shops being shut on sundays, everyone used to go out visiting relations or picnicking on Sundays, there was a holiday feel about.“This is my simple religion. No need for temples. No need for complicated philosophy. Your own mind, your own heart is the temple. Your philosophy is simple kindness.”
― Dalai Lama XIV -
Yeah Sundays was a closed shop day except the paper shop for a hour or 2 in the morning, the pub for a few hours. Now it's all open even town shops.
-
My mother used to go mad when the birds pecked the tops off the milk(she wanted the cream for her cornflakes)so my father made a little box for the milkman to leave them in.
-
Yeah mine wasn't best pleased @Teigr how clever were the birds tho. But janes right you don't hear the clanging of bottles any more. I used to return pop bottles to the shop to get 10p back for pick n mix, my favourite were the aniseed balls for half a pence
-
The old Sky TV menu tune, going back many boxes now
-
I remember taking pop bottles back to the corner shop @Sandy_123,I'm not sure I was allowed to keep the money though.
