Hi, I'm jbuckrogers! My husband recently had a stroke, what do I do?

My hubby had stroke 0th jan - i don't know what i don't know? If that makes any sense? Never had any one contact with this before

    Hi @jbuckrogers - & welcome to the community. I'm sorry your husband has suffered a stroke; is he now recovering at home? It's a lot to take onboard, & it's only early days. Does he have any support with ongoing physiotherapy?
    As well as having members here who understand about strokes, having either had one themselves or supporting a partner, there's a lot of good info that can be found here: https://www.stroke.org.uk/  which I hope you may find helpful.

    Thank you - he's still in hospital - has 3rd nerve palsy left eye which not open yet? Was about to be transferred to rehab then caught covid! Now staying isolation room for 10 days before he can go on list to be moved to rehab hospital!

    This sounds really difficult for you and your hubby @jbuckrogers. I hope the hospital are looking after your hubby! 

    How are you managing with all of this at the moment? It can be really difficult to see our loved ones struggle.

    @jbuckrogers Hello from me and a warm welcome, I'm sorry it's under such difficult circumstances but I hope we can help.

    You must be feeling a little shell-shocked with it all, how are you coping? Do you have much support from friends or family? 

    Also, although the delay must be frustrating, that he is will be getting transferred to a rehab unit is positive news. Once there, I imagine he would have access to a specialist nurse and/or physiotherapy team who will be able to provide the best possible support. Do you have any particular worries or concerns? If so, make a note so you can discuss them at the next care meeting. 

    If we can help in any way, please just let us know. Also, I've moved your thread to our Physical and neurological impairments category and amended the title to help others find your thread and provide words of comfort.

    I'm sorry your husband's move to rehab has been delayed & hope he recovers well from having Covid; the last thing he needed! Do take good care of yourself so you are in the best position to keep on supporting him, & do write down any questions that come to mind as Cher advised.

    Hi I’m so sorry to hear about your husband, it must’ve been a terrible shock for you.
    I hope he gets to rehab as soon as he’s better from covid.

    And as @chiarieds sd remember to look after you aswell.

    Hubby being transferred for rehab followin stroke- i am struggling to drive as i have Peripheral Vascular Disease and am wtg imminent op to clear veins - is there any help i can get - hospital he going to is 2 bus rides away i cld only go by mobility scooter

    Morning @jbuckrogers nice to meet you, i am sorry to read about things that's going on in your life at the moment.
    I can't help with any proper advice, so i'm hoping our in the know members can give you practical support.
    Have you got any friends or family that may be able to help you out with lifts. I know how you feel about not being able to visit easily, my own Father in Law is now in a Nursing Home, but it's miles away from were any of the family live and we have to rely on getting to see him via car. It does make us feel guilty that we can't visit as much as we would like and did when he lived in his own place, if you tell the rehab about the difficulty you are having they will be very understanding and you can phone to check on his progress and they may also help by getting you to talk to him or see him via video link.

    Hi @jbuckrogers sorry read about your husband, do you have any schemes in your area like in mine we have ring and ride service, that picks you up at the door and drops you off and visa versa. Might be worth checking.
