How would my partner moving in impact our benefits?

I never said it was perfect but in your situation then it’s financially better. Is any part of your partners ESA contributions based or is it all Income Related?Your partner needs to make sure they report the changes if you start working.0

All income related yes phoning them tomorrow as he added me to his claim on 26th January but not heard anything back yet0
-
But it sounds as if you’ll be better off on it if you will be working.smudge9000 said:Uc isn't fit for purpose that's just my opinion0 -
Not just claiming uc untill were asked too already been to citizens advice and asked there advice when filled the esa form out there0

Which means you’ll be working 10 hours per week for £20. The rest will be deducted £1 for £1 from the ESA.smudge9000 said:All income related yes phoning them tomorrow as he added me to his claim on 26th January but not heard anything back yet0 -
What do you mean don't really understand that part sorry0
-
For example, you earn £90 per week. £20 of that is disregarded. £70 would be deducted from your ESA. Which would mean you would only be £20 per week better off after working 10 hours. Not a lot of money really.smudge9000 said:What do you mean don't really understand that part sorryThis is why UC is a better option.0 -
Anything you earn own over £20/week will be deducted from the income based ESA so as a couple the result of your work is that you better off by £20.smudge9000 said:What do you mean don't really understand that part sorry
Under UC the earnings deduction would be lower (possibly nil).0 -
Exactly and this is one area where UC is better. Especially compared to legacy benefits such as Income Related ESA.calcotti said

Agreed, as you have taken time to explain in previous replies.poppy123456 said:

Thanks for your help anyway0

Regardless of whether UC is fit for purpose, everyone is going to be moved onto it, so you would be better off claiming it now, why would you rather be financially worse off. I understand the dislike of UC, but not to the extend of potentially losing money and being worst off. UC is not as bad as everyone claims.calcotti said:

Sorry I quoted the wrong person, don't know how to get rid.0

Already rang esa this morning it's all been sorted will not affect esa claim 😄0
-
Then you've been advised incorrectly anything you earn over £20 will be deducted.0

Yes when I send my wage slip in0

Then you'll have an overpayment for your ESA by that time.0 -
They have put everything on the claim saying I'm starting work once they receive my wage slip they will sort deduction out0
