Hi there  I was self employed and since lockdown due to increased health issues I’m no longer able to go out to work I’m claiming universal credit
and LWCA my question is I have a hobby that I do off and on whenever I’m able  it’s making things with wool  it keeps my mind occupied I wanted to have a online shop to sell them I was told that I can earn a certain amount and it won’t affect my benefits I have to report any earnings on a monthly basis  it’s making me anxious I am doing the right thing I don’t want my money to stop as my health is getting worse will I be worse off in the long run I’m a bit confused how this works

If you claim help with housing costs you have a work allowance of £344, if you don’t have housing costs the work allowance is £573. This means you can earn up to this amount without any deductions from your UC payment, any further earnings are deducted 55p per £1 you earn. There’s no harm in trying, I think it is a positive thing for your health trying to do something different.

Just to check, do you have a partner on your UC claim?

Welcome @elaine02 and happy Friday! How are you doing?

I'm sorry to hear your health is worsening and your anxious about money being stopped due to your online shop. I hope we can ease some of that concern and I can see bg844 is already helping with benefit advice  :)

Just to let you know, I've changed the title of your thread to reflect your question and help others spot it, and moved it to our Universal credit category.

    Wishing you all the best.

Thankyou for this I have been so worried and I just had my first sale I have a wonderful little hobby and people say the things I make are amazing and it a shame to not do something with it and a bit of extra cash wouldn’t go a miss I just wished I was well enough to do it full time well I have to do what I can for now thanks again x

I can really hear how much you enjoy doing this @elaine02 and even better that it's really good for your mind. What has been your favourite thing to make so far?  :)

If you mean how do you post on the forum then you do it in the same way you commented on your thread here.
If you want to post something on the thread linked above by Hannah then click on it and it will take you to that thread. You can then scroll to the last page and comment at the bottom of that thread.
