We are so fed up with our community paed. that we're thinking of going private. Does anyone know and can recommend a good private paed.? Someone that cares enough to base their comments and observations on true scientific measurements rather than some whim? Someone that takes action when there is ground for concern? Who doesn't leave parents devastated and does nothing? If anybody knows of a good doctor in London who specialises in compromised child development, particularlr cp I would be grateful for their name. Thanks.

Our experience is only vaguely related here but seems kind of relevant. We were so p****d off with the eye clinic in Wakefield messing us around for over a year and not telling us what their plans were for our daughter's squint we asked our optician to make a private referral. We got an appointment through within a month and saw a lovely consultant at a very lovely private hospital in Huddersfield. He spent an hour and a half discussing everything in wonderful detail, said he'd transfer her onto his NHS list at the Royal Infirmary and the op should be done within 6 months. A month later we got in on a cancellation at short notice and her op went fine. She's now fully recovered with no trace of a squint. The consultation cost us \

Thanks Dom and Astra for your replies.

I am a great believer in a public health service so it hurts even more when you feel let down and have to go the private route. It angers me to think that not everyone can get top of the range health care in this country. My little boy (and our sanity) is more important than my principles, I guess. I will try and speak to our GP who it has to be said has always been very supportive of our family. I will also consult my son's neurologist who does private practice. There must be a great paed. out there like the consultant you describe, Astra. Someone realistic, positive and most importantly PROACTIVE.

I know exactly how you are feeling, so you have my support and sympathy, not that that helps much. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in London though :-(

    Hi Sam,

I just read my own comment and could not believe that I ever wrote that! If you look at the date it was written in 2004.
I can't remember ever being fed up with the paediatrician, but it's so long ago now. I'm sorry that I can't help with a name. We never
went private and now my son has a great community paediatrician.
