hello,
are we allowed to make regular small contributions to a pension plan or will it affect benefits? Is there a limit? I’m not sure where to find information on this.
thank you!

Yes you can do this. The limit will depend on your circumstances. If you have earned income of less than £3,600 year then you can pay in a maximum of £2,880/year. Full details here https://www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/pensions-and-retirement/tax-and-pensions/the-annual-allowance0
