hello,
are we allowed to make regular small contributions to a pension plan or will it affect benefits? Is there a limit? I’m not sure where to find information on this.

Yes you can do this. The limit will depend on your circumstances. If you have earned income of less than £3,600 year then you can pay in a maximum of £2,880/year.
